About Us

Based at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Rheumatology in Stellenbosch, we are an integrated multi-disciplinary team with the aim to improve the life of amputees through bone anchored prosthesis.

Osseo-integration is an advanced treatment that helps people with amputations connect their prosthetic limb directly to the bone (bone anchored prosthesis). Instead of relying on a socket that fits over the skin and soft tissue, a specialised implant is placed into the bone and attached to the prosthesis. This gives a stronger, more natural connection and often makes walking, moving, and living with a prosthetic limb much easier and more comfortable.

Osseo-integration is a journey supported by a team of specialists working closely with you. The surgeon leads the process, but physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, nurses, dieticians and prosthetists are all there to guide your recovery. After surgery, you’ll follow a careful step-by-step program to gradually put weight through the implant and learn how to use your new click prosthesis safely. This structured approach is very important to make sure the bone anchored implant becomes strong and stable, helping you achieve the best possible long-term results.

The people who benefit most from osseo-integration are those who struggle with socket-based prostheses. If you have problems such as pain, skin irritation, sweating, or difficulty keeping your prosthesis on comfortably, osseo-integration may be an option. The treatment is best for motivated patients who are ready to commit to the rehabilitation process. For many, it can mean greater comfort, improved movement, and the chance to return to daily activities with confidence.
